Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh …. The classic 80’s hit song ‘Montego Bay’ secured The Allniters position as pioneers of Australian ska music. This irresistibly danceable music genre, combining Jamaican and Caribbean rhythms with emotive punk rock energy, lit up the dancefloors of the 80s and lives on today. The Allniters originally formed in 1980 and introduced their uniquely new wave Ska sound and delivered it to audiences with Aussie panache.
Their seminal hit ‘Montego Bay’ first charted on September 22nd, 1983, peaked at 10th position, and stayed in the charts for 16 weeks. Forty years later, “Montego Bay’ is still voted as one of the top 100 Australian songs of all time. Almost every homegrown ska act since The Allniters’ inception has been a direct offshoot of the band. The Allniters are allriters – and definitely ska for life.
